Bike Theft Deterrence Initiative
One of every two cyclists has experienced bike crimes, Most of us have been affected by it and we know how disappointing it is to have a bicycle stolen. Over the years though, bike theft has gone rampant and seems that there is no solution for these crimes...
I think that the solution to bike thefts is not bigger, heavier and stronger chains, locks and whatsoever... It is not simply acceptable to be obliged to carry a lock as heavy as the half of the bicycle's weight, just to protect it for a while..
My conclusion is that the only way to deter bike thefts is to increase the risk of the crime and also eliminate the market for these stolen bikes.
Here i am with my new project: Cyclingboom.
Cyclingboom was created with a goal in mind."To promote Urban Cycling" and as the very first plan, I decided to combine 2 different ideas together and see how it works together.Bike Theft Deterrence & Peer to Peer bike sharing project are 2 different sections that I combined together to make the most of both. The mechanism is easy; Cyclingboom Provides Free bicycle tags to everyone and cyclists can register their bike for free; This makes it easier to track the status of bicycle in case of the theft and increases the chance of retrieval of bicycle in case of crime. During the registration there is the bike sharing section which volunteers could opt in for sharing their bikes with peer cyclists who are travelling in their cities. This function is totally optional and is turned off by default, but I hope many cyclists would join this initiative as it could be fun to share a spare bike, meet a peer cyclists and make like-minded friends.
Let me know What you think about this :)
